I have studied Veterinary Medicine with specialization in Veterinary Bacteriology. I was employed in Mekelle University immediately after my DVM degree, 2006 and got a government scholarship to do my MSc in India in 2007.
In my MVSc thesis entitled “Studies on Molecular Heterogeneity among Salmonella Gallinarum Isolates of Poultry Origin”, I have worked with several molecular techniques including PCR, RAPD-PCR, PCR-RFLP and plasmid profile analysis.
As a staff in Mekelle University College of Veterinary Medicine, I had numerous opportunities to do many activities. Since 2009 I have been working in the college as Assistant professor and also served in different management positions (Quality assurance Head of the college, college Dean). My responsibilities are teaching, conducting research and community services individually or in a team, and supervising graduating students. Currently, I am attending a short term training in Poultry Husbandry and Animal Feed at PTC+, Barneveld, Netherlands sponsored by the Netherlands fellowship program (Nuffic).
My research areas of interest are Veterinary Microbiology, Food Safety, Poultry Sciences and Animal Diseases.
My professional goals are to be a role model to my students, address societal problems at grass root level through research and community outreach and contribute my share to achieve the vision of my University (
